Evil Angels
Short description
Evil Angels is a drama based on events that took place in the Australian outback in 1980. Lindy and Michael Chamberlain take their children camping near Ayers Rock, known today as Uluru. One night their infant daughter Azaria disappears from the family tent, and Lindy says she saw a dingo carry the baby away. Searches turn up no body, though some of the child's clothing is later found. The case becomes a public sensation, and a second inquest leads to Lindy being charged with murder, turning the family into the target of intense media scrutiny and public suspicion.
Fred Schepisi directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Robert Caswell, and Verity Lambert produced. It was Schepisi's sixth feature, arriving between Roxanne and The Russia House. Meryl Streep plays Lindy Chamberlain and Sam Neill plays Michael Chamberlain, heading a credited cast of 158.
The film was released in November 1988 and runs 120 minutes. Made for about 7 million dollars, it took roughly 4 million at the worldwide box office, a modest return against its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from about 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.8 from a much smaller sample of 229. A critics' rating of 4.3 out of 10 from 30 reviews places it well below the audience scores.

- The plot of the film is based on a real event that occurred in Australia. On the night of August 17, 1980, Azaria Chamberlain, 9 weeks old, went missing from a tent when her parents decided to rest in nature. The girl's mother, Lindy Chamberlain, saw a wild dingo dog leaving the tent.
- In 1986, Azaria's jacket was found, in an area with many dingo dens, and the case of the missing child was reopened. In 1988, the charges against the girl's parents were dropped, and two years later, the Australian government ordered them to be compensated for the time they had spent in prison.
- Initially, it was planned for Dolph Lundgren to play the villainous alien.
- Mattias Hughes wore special platform shoes that made him taller.
- In the early stages of script development, the film was supposed to be a comedy.
- The alien's gun is a modified Calico M950.
- Matti Haas, who played the alien, had to perform all the stunts himself, as there were no stunt performers tall enough to match him.
