Father Figures

Twin brothers Kyle and Peter Reynolds have grown up believing their father died when they were small. When they learn their mother invented that story, they set off across the United States to track down the man they never knew, a search that also turns up details about their mother's past they were not prepared for.

Father Figures was released in December 2017. It is a comedy directed by Lawrence Sher, working from a screenplay by Justin Malen, and produced by Ivan Reitman with Broderick Johnson and Andrew A. Kosove. Owen Wilson plays Kyle and Ed Helms plays Peter, with J.K. Simmons, Katt Williams, Ving Rhames and Terry Bradshaw among the supporting cast. Sher came to the film after a long career as a cinematographer; this was one of his earliest credits as a director, and the production drew on a budget of about 25 million dollars.

The film had a mixed reception. On IMDb it holds 5.5 out of 10 from roughly 24,000 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 5.8 out of 10 from about 700 votes, indicating audiences found it passable rather than memorable. A critics' rating of 3.5 out of 10 from 47 reviews is clearly lower than those audience scores. The worldwide box office of about 26 million dollars was only slightly above the production budget.
