A Troll in Central Park follows Stanley, a troll whose gentle nature sets him apart in a kingdom where being mean and frightening humans is the rule. He has a magical green thumb that makes flowers bloom wherever he touches, and when the ruling queen discovers this forbidden gift, she banishes him to a place with no greenery at all: Manhattan. There he settles in Central Park, where he befriends two children, Gus and Rosie, and creates gardens for them. His happiness angers the queen, who travels to the city to punish him and his new friends.
The film is a 1994 animated feature directed by Don Bluth and Gary Goldman, who had worked together the same year on Thumbelina and went on to make The Pebble and the Penguin, Anastasia, Bartok the Magnificent and Titan A.E. It sits between those titles in both directors' filmographies. Stu Krieger wrote the screenplay, and the producers were Goldman, John Pomeroy and Bluth. The voice cast includes Dom DeLuise as Stanley, Phillip Glasser as Gus, Tawny Sunshine Glover as Rosie, Cloris Leachman as Queen Gnorga, Hayley Mills as Hilary and Jonathan Pryce as Alan.
The film runs 75 minutes and was made with a budget of 23 million US dollars. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.3 out of 10 from around 7,800 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 5.1 out of 10 from 159 votes, indicating a modest audience response.
