Buddy Buddy

Buddy Buddy is a comedy about two men who end up in the same hotel at the worst possible time. Trabucco is a professional hitman staying in a room overlooking a courthouse, where he intends to shoot witnesses in a major Mafia trial. Next door is Victor Clooney, a depressed man whose wife has left him and who has checked in with thoughts of killing himself. Victor's clumsy suicide attempts keep interrupting Trabucco's preparations, and the two become stuck in each other's company as Trabucco tries to carry out his contract. The film is a remake of the 1973 French comedy The Clumsy One, with the action moved to the United States.

Billy Wilder directed and co-wrote the screenplay with his longtime collaborator I. A. L. Diamond, and Jay Weston produced. It was Wilder's twenty-second film as director in chronological order, following Fedora. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau star as Victor and Trabucco, continuing a pairing that had run through several of Wilder's earlier films. Paula Prentiss plays Victor's wife Celia, Klaus Kinski appears as Dr. Hugo Zuckerbrot, and Dana Elcar and Miles Chapin are among the credited cast of forty-two.

On a budget of about 10 million dollars, the film earned roughly 7 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from around 5,500 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.1 from a much smaller group of voters. A critics' rating of 5.3 from 16 reviews places it below both audience scores.
