Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack

Nearly half a century after Godzilla's attack on Tokyo, Japan has largely moved on and treats the monster as legend. That calm is broken when a US submarine is destroyed and ships begin to vanish, prompting Admiral Tachibana, who witnessed the original attack as a child, to suspect the creature has returned. His estranged daughter Yuri, a television reporter, looks into three strange incidents in different parts of the country and meets an old man who tells her of three guardian monsters tied to the sky, the sea and the land. Japan's only hope against a vengeful Godzilla lies with these protectors.

Shusuke Kaneko directed and co-wrote the film with Keiichi Hasegawa and Masahiro Yokotani. It followed his trilogy of Gamera films made between 1995 and 1999 and preceded his later work on Azumi 2: Death or Love and the two Death Note films. Chiharu Niiyama plays Yuri, with Ryudo Uzaki as Admiral Tachibana, alongside Masahiro Kobayashi, Shirō Sano, Takashi Nishina and Kaho Minami. Roughly 25 cast and 58 crew members are credited.

Made for about 9 million USD, the film took around 20 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7 out of 10 from 8,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.5 out of 10 from 297 votes, indicating solid audience approval. A critics' rating of 5.6 out of 10 from 17 reviews places professional assessment below the audience response.
