After.Life

After a quarrel with her boyfriend Paul, schoolteacher Anna Taylor is in a car crash and comes to in a funeral home. There she finds Eliot Deacon, a mortician who is preparing her body for burial. Anna is sure she is still alive, but Eliot insists she died in the accident and that he has a gift for guiding the recently departed through the stage between life and death. Unsettled and unable to leave, she is left to confront what he tells her while Paul wrestles with doubts about a death he feels responsible for.

After.Life was directed by Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo from a screenplay she wrote with Paul Vosloo and Jakub Korolczuk. The American production was made for about five million dollars and returned roughly two million at the worldwide box office. Christina Ricci plays Anna, with Liam Neeson as Eliot and Justin Long as Paul, alongside Chandler Canterbury, Josh Charles and Celia Weston among 23 credited cast members.

Ratings split along familiar lines. On IMDb the film sits at 5.9 out of 10 from about 43,000 votes, and on TMDB it holds 6.3 out of 10 from roughly 1,275 votes, both middling and close together. A critics' rating of 4.5 out of 10 from 55 reviews places professional notices below what audiences gave it.
