Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions continues the story of the Duel Monsters series. Yugi Muto and his friends are in their final year of high school, thinking about what comes next, while Seto Kaiba remains unable to accept that he never defeated Atem. Kaiba arranges an excavation to recover the pieces of the Millennium Puzzle, hoping to bring his rival back. His plans are interrupted by a new opponent, and Yugi, Kaiba and the others are drawn into a duel whose outcome carries consequences beyond their own rivalry.
The film was directed by Satoshi Kuwabara, who wrote the screenplay with Kazuki Takahashi and Masahiro Hikokubo. Shunsuke Kazama voices Yugi, Kenjiro Tsuda voices Kaiba, and the cast also includes Hiroki Takahashi, Maki Saito, Takayuki Kondo and Rica Matsumoto. It followed Kuwabara's earlier work on the franchise and was released in Japan in April 2016, running 130 minutes.
The film took about 7 million dollars worldwide, a modest figure that reflects a release aimed mainly at existing fans of the series rather than a broad cinema audience. On IMDb it holds 6.8/10 from around 4,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 7.6/10 from roughly 470 votes. Both point to a dedicated following, with the smaller TMDB sample rating it somewhat higher.
