Chocolat

Set in Paris during the Belle Époque, this drama comedy follows the life of Rafael Padilla, known as Chocolat. As the first black stage performer in France, he rises from obscurity to widespread fame after forming a comedic duo with George Footit. While their partnership becomes a massive popular success in the late 19th century, the relationship is strained by racial discrimination, gambling, and the pressures of celebrity. The story explores how these factors, along with the nature of their act, eventually damage their friendship and Chocolat's professional standing.
