Bart Hughes has a good career as a bank manager, a wife and son, and a Manhattan townhouse he has just finished renovating. When his family goes away for the summer, he stays behind to work on a project that could earn him a promotion. His plans are disrupted by rats in the basement, and what begins as an attempt to clear them out turns into an obsession. The struggle grows into a drawn-out contest between a man and a rat of unusual size and cunning.
George P. Cosmatos directed the film, which came third in his filmography after The Cassandra Crossing and Escape to Athena, ahead of Rambo: First Blood Part II, Cobra and Tombstone. Brian Taggert wrote the screenplay, Claude Héroux produced, and Peter Weller leads the cast as Bart, with Jennifer Dale, Lawrence Dane, Kenneth Welsh, Louis Del Grande and Shannon Tweed in supporting roles. The film was made on a budget of four million dollars and took about one million dollars worldwide.
