In Kasukabe, a new attraction devoted to the twentieth century opens its doors, promising adults a chance to revisit the years of their youth. The nostalgia proves overwhelming: parents abandon their jobs, their homes and their children to immerse themselves in the past, leaving the town's youngest residents to fend for themselves. Shinnosuke Nohara and his friends suspect that the museum's creators have something other than harmless sentiment in mind, and set out to bring the grown-ups back.
The film is directed by Keiichi Hara, who also wrote the screenplay, and it sits sixth in the run of Crayon Shin-chan features he made between 1997 and 2002, following Jungle That Invites Storm and preceding The Battle of the Warring States. Akiko Yajima voices Shinnosuke, with Miki Narahashi and Keiji Fujiwara as his parents, Yuko Mita as Hiroshi's childhood self, Satomi Korogi as Himawari and Masane Tsukayama as Ken. Junichi Yamakawa produced, and the animation came from Shin-Ei Animation with TV Asahi and Asatsu-DK.
Released in Japan in April 2001, the film runs ninety minutes and took in roughly ten million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.8 from about 1,700 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 8.3 from a much smaller base of 81. Audience scores are high on both, though the larger sample is the more measured of the two.
