Little Men

Little Men is a drama about two thirteen-year-old boys in Brooklyn who become friends just as a dispute between their families threatens to pull them apart. Jake is a quiet, artistic boy who has moved into the home of his late grandfather, where Tony's mother Leonor has long run her dress shop. Jake and Tony, who is outgoing and confident, take to each other quickly. The trouble is that the shop's rent is far below what Jake's parents, Brian and Kathy, now need, and the adults' argument over the lease puts the boys' friendship at risk.

Ira Sachs directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Mauricio Zacharias. It is the third of six features Sachs has directed, following Married Life and Love Is Strange and preceding Passages, Peter Hujar's Day and The Man I Love. The cast includes Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Ehle as Jake's parents, Paulina García as Leonor, and Theo Taplitz and Michael Barbieri as the two boys, with Talia Balsam among the thirty credited cast; sixty-one crew members are credited.

Released in August 2016, the film runs 85 minutes and was made for about 2 million dollars, a modest budget consistent with its small-scale, character-driven story. On IMDb it holds a 6.7 rating from roughly 8,200 votes, while on TMDB it has a 6.4 from about 177 votes. A critics' rating of 8 out of 10 from 142 reviews places it noticeably above those audience scores.
