Conan the Barbarian

Conan the Barbarian follows the Cimmerian warrior Conan, whose life is shaped by violence from childhood. After his father is killed and his village destroyed by the warlord Khalar Zym, Conan grows into a formidable fighter and sets out for revenge. His pursuit puts him on a collision course with Zym's daughter Marique, a sorceress, and with a young woman named Tamara whom Zym needs for a ritual. What begins as a personal vendetta widens into a struggle to protect Hyboria from a supernatural force, with Conan emerging as its main hope of salvation.

Marcus Nispel directed the film, the fourth in the directing chronology listed for him, following The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Pathfinder and Friday the 13th. Sean Hood, Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer wrote the screenplay, and Jason Momoa plays Conan, with Stephen Lang as Khalar Zym, Rachel Nichols as Tamara, Ron Perlman as Corin and Rose McGowan as Marique. Roughly 70 cast members and more than 500 crew were credited.

Made for about 90 million dollars, the film returned around 64 million dollars worldwide. It drew a 4.2 out of 10 from 151 critics, and audiences were similarly cool: 5.2 out of 10 on IMDb from about 106,000 votes, and 5.3 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 2,000 votes.
