Dane Jensen is a headhunter at a Chicago recruiting firm, where he has spent years chasing results at the expense of time at home. When his boss announces his retirement, Dane and his colleague Lynn Vogel are set against each other to succeed him, turning the office into a contest for control of the company. Around the same time, Dane learns that his young son Ryan has been diagnosed with a serious illness, forcing him to weigh his professional ambitions against his family's needs.
The drama was directed by Mark Williams, who also produced alongside Gerard Butler and Alan Siegel, from a screenplay by Bill Dubuque. It was Williams's first feature as director, ahead of Honest Thief and Blacklight. Butler plays Dane, with Gretchen Mol as his wife Elise, Maxwell Jenkins as Ryan, Alison Brie as Lynn, Anupam Kher as Dr. Savraj Singh and Willem Dafoe as Ed Blackridge. Around 48 cast members and 230 crew were credited on the Canada-United States co-production, which runs 108 minutes.
The film had a modest commercial footprint, with worldwide box office of about 2 million US dollars. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from roughly 15,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7 from around 555 votes. A critics' rating of 4.1 from 24 reviews places it well below those audience scores.
