Richard is a sparrow raised by storks who believes he is one of them. When it is time for the annual migration to Africa, his family reveals his true species and leaves him behind, fearing he cannot survive the long flight. Determined to prove he has the spirit of a stork, Richard begins his own journey south. Along the way, he teams up with an eccentric owl named Olga, who has an imaginary friend, and a disco-singing parakeet named Kiki. Together, the trio travels across Europe using various means of transport to reach their destination.
The film was co-directed by Toby Genkel and Reza Memari. For Genkel, this was the second project in a career that includes Ooops! Noah Is Gone... and later works such as Two by Two: Overboard!. This production marked the directorial debut for Memari, who also wrote the screenplay. The voice cast features Cooper Kelly Kramer, Christian Gaul, and Shannon Conley, alongside Tilman Döbler, Kevin Croft, and Nicolette Krebitz.
Produced as a collaboration between companies in Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, and the United States, the movie earned 14 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audiences gave the film a rating of 6.1/10 on TMDB based on 163 votes.
