Short description
A serial killer named Max Jenke is executed by electric chair after being captured by detective Lucas McCarthy. Before dying, Jenke vows to seek revenge against the man who caught him. The killer returns from death as a supernatural entity to terrorize McCarthy and his family, turning their home and dreams into places of horror. To protect his loved ones, the detective must confront the murderer within a surreal realm.
Directed by James Isaac, this was the first of three films he directed, followed by Jason X and Skinwalkers. The movie features Lance Henriksen as the detective and Brion James as the killer, with supporting roles played by Rita Taggart, Dedee Pfeiffer, Aron Eisenberg, and Thom Bray. Produced by Sean S. Cunningham and released in 1989, the film earned 2 million USD at the worldwide box office. On TMDB, the movie holds a rating of 5.4/10 based on 172 votes. This audience score is higher than the rating from film critics, who gave the production a 2.8/10 based on 8 reviews.

- Bryon James (Max Jenke) stated in several interviews that this was his favorite role of all the ones he has played.
- Rita Taggart had never been a fan of horror films, but agreed to take on the role in this film because she had a "window" before filming began on the television series "Almost Grown" (1988-1989). Furthermore, she really wanted to work with Lance Henriksen.
- According to producer Sean S. Cunningham, the film was originally going to be called "House III," but the new distributor – MGM – wanted it to be the start of a potentially new series of films with the famous villain, so the script was changed and received the new title "House of Horrors" for release in the US, while the title "House III" remained for foreign markets.
