Two Is a Family

Samuel is living a carefree life in the south of France, with no responsibilities and no ties, until a former girlfriend, Kristin, turns up and leaves a baby with him. The child, Gloria, is his daughter, and Kristin promptly disappears. Unable to look after an infant and determined to hand her back, Samuel follows Kristin to London, but he cannot find her. Eight years on, he and Gloria are settled in London and inseparable, and Samuel has built a career as a stuntman, when Kristin returns and wants her daughter back. The film is a French remake of the Mexican hit Instructions Not Included.

Hugo Gélin directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Mathieu Oullion and Jean-André Yerlès, and it was the first of the two features he has directed, followed by Love at Second Sight in 2019. Omar Sy plays Samuel, with Gloria Colston as Gloria, Clémence Poésy as Kristin, Antoine Bertrand as Bernie, Ashley Walters as Lowell and Clémentine Célarié as Samantha, among a credited cast of 76. Philippe Rousselet and Stéphane Célérier produced.

Released in December 2016, the comedy-drama runs 118 minutes. On IMDb it holds 7.3 out of 10 from around 30,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.7 out of 10 from just over 3,000 votes, both indicating a broadly favourable audience response. Film critics rated it 5 out of 10 across 14 reviews, noticeably lower than the audience scores.
