Short description
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw centres on two men who have spent years trying to beat each other: Luke Hobbs, an agent of the United States Diplomatic Security Service, and Deckard Shaw, a former British military operative turned outlaw. Their mutual hostility gives way to an uneasy partnership when a genetically and cybernetically enhanced anarchist named Brixton seizes a biological weapon capable of causing mass destruction. Shaw has a personal stake in the fight, since Brixton has already defeated his sister Hattie, an MI6 agent. With the threat extending beyond any single government, the pair must work as a team despite their differences.
The film is a spin-off of the Fast & Furious series, directed by David Leitch, whose earlier credits include John Wick, Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2. Chris Morgan and Drew Pearce wrote the screenplay, and Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham star alongside Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, Helen Mirren and Eiza González. Johnson, Statham and Morgan also produced.
Released in 2019, the film cost about 200 million USD and earned roughly 761 million USD worldwide, a strong return for a spin-off built around two supporting characters. On IMDb it holds 6.4/10 from around 256,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.8/10 from a much smaller base of about 7,930 votes. A critics' rating of 6.1/10 from 341 reviews places it close to the audience scores rather than sharply apart from them.
