Short description
A force of loners and fighters is put together to try and rescue the generals and save the war effort with the promise of gold and pardons of past crimes.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Jackie Chan agreed to star in this film only as a favor to Yuen Wang, who helped him resolve issues with the triads in 1980. The second such film was "Island of Fire" (1990). Subsequently, in many interviews, Jackie Chan stated that, in his opinion, both films turned out terrible.
  • Despite its low quality and negative reviews, the film achieved a small cult status in certain circles, mainly due to its strange combination of genres.
  • "Special Task Force" was the second film featuring a final fight between Jackie Chan and Yuen Wang, the first being "Meteor Strike" (1976). In it, Jackie Chan plays the main villain, while Yuen Wang plays the hero. In "Special Task Force" they "swapped roles," with Jackie Chan now playing the positive character and Yuen Wang the negative one.
  • In the film's credits, Jackie Chan is listed as "Jacky Chan." This is the last film where he uses this pseudonym.
  • The American version of the film is 9 minutes shorter than the Hong Kong version.
  • Other translation options for the title include "Special Task Force" and "Squad with a Fantastic Mission."
  • The German version of the film is 17 minutes shorter than the Hong Kong version.
  • The film is often advertised as starring Jackie Chan. Although his character participates in the final battle and defeats the main villain, Jackie's role is more of a cameo; he appears in only a few scenes.

  • “Project A” was the second film to feature a final fight between Jackie Chan and Yu Wang, the first being “Snake in the Eagle's Shadow” (1976). In it, Jackie Chan plays the main villain, while Yu Wang plays the hero. In “Project A,” they “switched roles,” with Jackie Chan now playing the positive character and Yu Wang the negative one.
