Fresh Horses

A college student from Cincinnati ends his engagement to a wealthy woman after meeting a young girl from rural Kentucky at a party. Though she initially claims to be twenty, he eventually discovers that she is only sixteen and trapped in a marriage to an abusive husband. The story focuses on the conflict between their two different social worlds and the complications arising from her hidden identity and domestic situation.

Directed by David Anspaugh, this drama and romance was the second film he directed, following Hoosiers and preceding Rudy and Swing Vote. The movie stars Andrew McCarthy as Matt Larkin and Molly Ringwald as Jewel, with a supporting cast that includes Patti D'Arbanville, Ben Stiller, Leon Russom, and Molly Hagan. The screenplay was written by Larry Ketron and produced by Richard Berg through Weintraub Entertainment Group.

Produced with a budget of 14 million USD, the film earned 7 million USD at the worldwide box office, recovering only half of its production costs. Audience reception was mixed, as shown by a 5/10 rating on IMDb from 2,500 votes and a 5.3/10 rating on TMDB based on 33 votes.
