Short description

Stensland is a hopeless romantic who believes he has found real love with Morgan, a woman older than him. He soon learns that she is married and that their relationship was only a way for her to get back at her husband, Grady. Grady's reaction is not what anyone expects: rather than taking out his anger on Stensland, he moves in with him, and the two men settle into single life together while Morgan is pushed to the side.

Kevin Tent directs this comedy, working from a screenplay by Jeremy Catalino. Tent had previously edited many films, and Crash Pad is one of only two features he has directed, made after his 2014 debut. Domhnall Gleeson plays Stensland, Thomas Haden Church plays Grady and Christina Applegate plays Morgan, with Nina Dobrev, Dan Gill and Sunita Prasad in supporting roles. The credited cast numbers twenty-nine.

The film is a Canadian-American production from Wonderful Films and Indomitable Entertainment, released in October 2017 with a runtime of 93 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.6 out of 10 from around 160 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 5.1 out of 10 from 13 reviews. The two scores sit close together, suggesting that professional reviewers and general viewers responded to the film in broadly similar, moderate terms.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The apartment where Stenland lives was modeled after a similarly unappealing space where Jeremy Catalino lived while working on the first draft of the film's screenplay. This building is located on Gardner Street in Los Angeles.
  • Billy Ocean declined a cameo role in which he was to play himself. The Anglo-Caribbean musician, one of the most distinctive figures in pop music of the 1980s, was played by Julian Christopher.
