House of the Long Shadows

An American writer, Kenneth Magee, makes a wager with his publisher: he will produce a classic novel, something in the vein of Wuthering Heights, within twenty-four hours. The publisher provides him with a remote Welsh manor that is supposed to have stood empty for decades, but Kenneth finds the house occupied by a handful of peculiar residents. Members of the Grisbane family arrive as well, and the reunion turns violent. The film is a comedy-tinged horror mystery in which the isolated house and its secrets drive the action.

Pete Walker directed, working from a screenplay by Michael Armstrong; the producers were Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus. The film was Walker's fifth feature as director, following The Flesh and Blood Show, Tiffany Jones, Schizo and The Comeback. Its cast brings together Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and John Carradine as members of the Grisbane family, with Desi Arnaz Jr. as Kenneth and Sheila Keith as Victoria.

Released in 1983, the British production had a budget of eight million dollars. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 from around five thousand six hundred votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.4 from roughly one hundred and twenty-four votes.
