The Icebreaker
Short description
Based on real events from 1985, this film follows the crew of the Russian icebreaker Mikhail Gromov in the Antarctic. After attempting to avoid a massive iceberg, the vessel becomes trapped in the ice and is forced to drift along the Amundsen Sea coast. The crew spends 133 days of the polar night struggling to survive and find a way out, knowing that a single mistake could lead to the ship being crushed by the surrounding ice.
Directed by Nikolay Khomeriki, this was the first of four films he directed, followed by The Ninth, Тик-Так, and Russia, I Love You. The movie features a cast including Pyotr Fyodorov, Sergey Puskepalis, Anna Mikhalkova, Olga Smirnova, Aleksandr Yatsenko, and Aleksandr Pal, with 21 credited actors in total.
