GANTZ:O

GANTZ:O follows Masaru Kato, who dies in an accident and wakes in an unfamiliar Tokyo apartment. There he meets the surviving members of the Tokyo team, whose leader, Kei Kurono, has just been killed. Alongside them he is transported to Osaka, a city ringed by an ocean of fire, where the mysterious black sphere known as Gantz hands out weapons and suits and sends the newly dead on missions against extraterrestrial targets. The Osaka team emerges as a rival group, and among its members is Anzu Yamasaki, a single mother. Masaru fights aliens and rival hunters while trying to survive and return to his brother, the only family he has left. The film adapts the Osaka arc of the original manga and was made entirely with computer-generated imagery.

The film is an action, animation, drama and science fiction production from Japan, running 95 minutes. It was directed by Keiichi Sato, whose earlier features are Asura (2012) and Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary (2014), with Yasushi Kawamura. Tsutomu Kuroiwa wrote the screenplay, and Meng Hee Wee, Atsushi Moriyama and Hideaki Iwamoto produced. The voice cast includes Yuki Kaji, Daisuke Ono, Saori Hayami, Mao Ichimichi, Masaya Onosaka and Kenjiro Tsuda.

Released in October 2016, the film took about 2 million USD worldwide. It holds a rating of 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb from around 18,000 votes and 7.4 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 879 votes, indicating a modest commercial footprint alongside consistently favorable viewer scores on both platforms.
