Thoroughbreds

Lily and Amanda were once close as children but have drifted apart by the time they meet again as teenagers in suburban Connecticut. Lily presents herself as a polished, high-achieving student with a prestigious boarding school and an enviable internship on her record, while Amanda has turned herself into a sharp-tongued outsider. What draws them back together is Lily's contempt for her domineering stepfather, Mark, and the two begin to consider murder as a way out of their problems. Their scheme brings them into contact with Tim, a local small-time crook, as they take matters into their own hands.

Thoroughbreds is the feature debut of writer-director Cory Finley, who followed it with Bad Education in 2019 and Landscape with Invisible Hand in 2023. It stars Olivia Cooke as Amanda and Anya Taylor-Joy as Lily, with Anton Yelchin as Tim, Paul Sparks as Mark, Francie Swift as Cynthia and Kaili Vernoff as Karen. Nat Faxon, Jim Rash and Kevin J. Walsh produced the film, which was made for about 5 million dollars and belongs to the drama and thriller genres.

The film earned a 7.3 out of 10 from 168 critics' reviews, a stronger response than its audience score of 6.4 out of 10 on TMDB based on 1,288 votes. Its worldwide gross of roughly 3 million dollars remained below its production budget.
