Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II

Thirty years after Mary Lou Maloney was crowned prom queen at Hamilton High in 1957, the school is preparing to name a new queen. Vicki Carpenter, a quiet student, comes across a box in the school's storage area holding the gown and tiara that belonged to Mary Lou. The find marks the start of a disturbing change in Vicki, and she begins to behave in ways that frighten those around her.

The film is set in motion by what happened to Mary Lou on the night of her crowning, when an act of spite by a rejected boyfriend, Bill Nordham, ended in her death. Bill has spent the intervening decades as the head of the same school, and his son Craig is close to Vicki. Only Bill grasps what is happening to her, since the past he tried to bury is catching up with him.

Bruce Pittman directed this Canadian horror film, his first feature, from a screenplay by Ron Oliver and a production by Peter R. Simpson. The cast includes Michael Ironside, Wendy Lyon, Louis Ferreira, Richard Monette, Lisa Schrage and Terri Hawkes, with around forty credited performers and nearly a hundred crew members. Made for about two million dollars, it returned roughly three million worldwide. On IMDb the film is rated 6.1 out of 10 from 222 votes, a warmer response than the 5.3 out of 10 it holds from 18 critics' reviews.
