• Work on the film began in 2010.
• In April 2017, Paramount decided to shelve the project. This happened when Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum left due to disagreements with the rewritten script. A month later, Netflix decided to take on the film. Ben Affleck, who joined the project in a role originally intended for Hardy, reported that there was another reason to offer the film to Netflix: the previous shooting plans didn't accommodate the Spanish language at all, even though the script required the characters to speak exclusively in Spanish for the first 20 minutes. Fortunately, Netflix had no such issues.
• Some members of the film crew were trained by real fighters from the US Navy SEAL special forces. This was done to add realism to the film.
