Short description

Demons 2 takes place largely inside a modern apartment tower, where residents go about an ordinary Saturday evening. A group of young people are throwing a birthday party for Sally in one of the upper-floor units, while elsewhere in the building a man studies for an exam, his pregnant wife rests, a fitness instructor runs the gym on the ground floor, and other tenants watch television. A horror film playing on the building's screens shows young people venturing into a forbidden zone where demons once ran loose; when one character is injured, his blood revives a dormant creature. The demon then pushes its way out of the television set and into the real building, attacking Sally and spreading a contagion that turns neighbours and party guests into savage killers. The survivors are left trapped in the ten-storey block with the creatures hunting them down.

Lamberto Bava directed, following his earlier horror features Macabre, A Blade in the Dark, Blastfighter and Demons, the film to which this is a sequel. Dario Argento produced and co-wrote the screenplay with Franco Ferrini and Bava. The cast includes David Edwin Knight, Nancy Brilli, Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni, Bobby Rhodes, Asia Argento and Virginia Bryant, among 29 credited performers. Made for about 2 million dollars, the Italian production received a mixed response: critics' reviews average 5.4 out of 10, slightly below the 6.1 out of 10 that users give it on TMDB across some 327 votes.

What's left behind the scenes

  • This film marked the debut of Dario Argento's youngest daughter, ten-year-old Asia Argento.
  • The resurrection of the first demon was filmed as follows: they filmed a head sculpted from wax melting, and then played the footage in reverse.
  • The scene where the first demon appears to burst out of the television was filmed as follows: an actor wearing a mask pressed his face against a latex screen.
