Kaatru Veliyidai

Kaatru Veliyidai is a romantic thriller from India, written, produced and directed by Mani Ratnam. It centres on Varun, a fighter pilot, and Dr Leela, a medical doctor, whose lives become entangled in the Kashmir valley. Leela hopes for tenderness from Varun, but he approaches love as something he gives without expecting anything in return, and the distance between them grows. Their story reaches a turning point with the Kargil conflict of 1999, after which Varun is taken prisoner, leaving the question of whether the two will meet again.

Karthi plays Varun and Aditi Rao Hydari plays Dr Leela. The supporting cast includes Balaji Patturaj, Rukmini Vijayakumar, KPAC Lalitha and Shraddha Srinath. The film runs 147 minutes and was released in April 2017, placing it in the middle stretch of Ratnam's directing career, after films such as Dil Se.., Guru and Raavanan and before the two Ponniyin Selvan parts.

Its reception sits in modest territory. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 2,700 votes, while on TMDB it has a rating of 5.6 from roughly 29 votes. The two audience scores are close to each other, indicating a similar, mixed response from viewers across both platforms.
