What Happened to Monday

In a future where overpopulation has led to a strict one-child policy, seven identical sisters exist in secret. Raised by their grandfather, they are named after the days of the week and take turns leaving the family home as a single invented woman, Karen Settman, each appearing only on her own day. The arrangement holds for years, until one sister fails to return, and the others must find out what happened to her while keeping their shared identity hidden from the authorities.

Tommy Wirkola directed the film, which followed Dead Snow, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead in his filmography. Noomi Rapace plays the seven siblings, with Glenn Close as Nicolette Cayman, the official overseeing the population programme, Willem Dafoe as their grandfather Terrence Settman and Marwan Kenzari as Adrian Knowles. Max Botkin and Kerry Williamson wrote the screenplay.

Made for about 20 million dollars, the film took roughly 28 million worldwide, a modest return. Audiences have rated it 6.8 out of 10 on IMDb from 144,000 votes and 7.1 out of 10 on TMDB from 6,576 votes, while a film critics' rating stands at 5.9 out of 10 from 37 reviews, lower than both audience scores. It runs 123 minutes and was released in August 2017.
