Trouble Every Day

Shane and June Brown travel to Paris for their honeymoon, but their trip is not a romantic one. Shane, a doctor, is consumed by a condition that links sexual desire to uncontrollable violence, and he is searching for the French researcher Léo Sémeneau, whose experiments on human libido left Shane afflicted. His search brings him into contact with Léo's wife, Coré, who suffers from the same compulsion. Around them, the city holds other figures caught up in the consequences of this condition, including a young woman and a man who takes her in.

Claire Denis directed and co-wrote the film with Jean-Pol Fargeau. It is the fourth of the fifteen features she has directed, following Beau Travail and preceding Friday Night. Vincent Gallo plays Shane, with Tricia Vessey as June, Béatrice Dalle as Coré, Alex Descas as Léo, and Florence Loiret Caille and Nicolas Duvauchelle in supporting roles. The production was a European and Japanese co-production involving Canal+, ARTE France Cinéma, Rezo Productions and ZDF.

On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 5.9 out of 10 from 61 reviews, closely matched by the audience score on TMDB, where 245 votes give it 5.8 out of 10. The two measures sit almost level, indicating that viewers and critics responded to the film in similar terms.
