Tau

Tau is a science fiction thriller about Julia, a young woman who makes her living through petty theft and is abducted by an inventor named Alex. She wakes inside a futuristic house where Alex is running an experiment, using her to advance the artificial intelligence he has developed. That system, called Tau, controls the house and a fleet of drones, and it has orders to keep Julia confined. Unable to simply break out, she tries to win the machine over instead, drawing on its curiosity to learn what Alex is doing and what happened to the test subjects who came before her, while Alex watches her through the same system.

The film is the feature directorial debut of Federico D'Alessandro, working from a screenplay by Noga Landau, with David S. Goyer, Kevin Turen and Russell Ackerman producing. Maika Monroe plays Julia, Ed Skrein plays Alex Upton, and Gary Oldman provides the voice of Tau. It runs 97 minutes and was released in June 2018.

Audience response has been mixed. On IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from roughly 37,000 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 6.2 out of 10 from about 1,400 votes. A critics' rating of 5.1 out of 10 from 10 reviews places it slightly below both audience scores.
