Short description
Tenet is a science fiction thriller about an agent recruited into a secretive operation to prevent a conflict that could end the world. Working with British intelligence after an attack at a Kyiv opera house, he finds himself drawn into a world of international espionage where the central weapon is not a bomb but a technology that reverses the flow of time. Objects affected by it move backwards rather than forwards, so that a fired bullet returns to the gun. The agent must stop an arms-dealing oligarch from using this technology while operating under a single word: Tenet.
Christopher Nolan wrote, directed and produced the film with Emma Thomas. It is the thirteenth of the fifteen features he has directed, following Dunkirk and preceding Oppenheimer. John David Washington plays the Protagonist, with Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Kenneth Branagh, Dimple Kapadia and Michael Caine among the cast, which numbers sixty-three credited actors and nearly five hundred credited crew.
Released in August 2020, Tenet cost around 205 million dollars and grossed roughly 365 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.3 out of 10 from about 680,000 votes, on TMDB 7.2 from more than 11,500, and its critics' rating stands at 7 out of 10 from 380 reviews, so the professional and audience scores sit close together.

- The film contains plans and details that Christopher Nolan had been considering for about 20 years. Writing the screenplay took him 6 years.
- The film contains a total of 280 shots with computer graphics, the rest being live footage using practical effects.
- According to Robert Pattinson, he adopted the accent, intonation, and mannerisms for his character from American journalist and writer Christopher Hitchens.
- Filming took place under conditions of the strictest secrecy. Robert Pattinson said that he was only allowed to read the script in a locked room at Warner Bros. headquarters, and Michael Caine was only given the scenes he was to appear in, not the entire script. Caine admitted to journalists that he had no idea what the film was about, despite being a close friend of Christopher Nolan.

- The film’s spectacular ending, beginning with the equally spectacular start of the legendary 1970 Dodge Charger, also wasn't without its tricks. The car used in the film looked like a real drag racing machine, but wasn’t one. In principle, genuine examples participating in quarter-mile races can easily lift their front wheels, but the Charger from the film 'cheated'. The stunt team equipped the Dodge with special pneumatic pushers with small wheels. The stunt driver, while inside the car, pressed a button, and the pushers lifted the car onto its rear wheels, and the Charger could travel 10-20 meters on its back wheels!
- A consultant – a genuine street racer with experience – was brought on board, and he advised purchasing a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, a 1994 Toyota Supra RZ, and a 1993 Mazda RX-7 for the main characters. Each car (and they bought five of each) cost around $10,000, plus approximately the same amount was spent on modifications.
- The working title of the film was "Merry-Go-Round".
- The film contains fragments of an ancient palindrome used to protect a home or person. Placed in a square, the palindrome reads in all directions vertically and horizontally. SATOR AREPO TENET OPERA ROTAS The film is titled Tenet, one of the main characters' surname is Sator, his company is called "Rotas," one scene takes place in an opera house, and the Spanish artist's surname is Arepo.
- Before filming his movies, Christopher Nolan typically gathers the crew and cast to screen the films that inspired him while working on the current project. Before the start of filming for this movie, Nolan broke that tradition. He wanted the creative team to rely on memory and intuition rather than trying to recreate what they had seen.
