The Looney, Looney, Looney Bugs Bunny Movie is an animated comedy built around Bugs Bunny, who serves as host for a showcase of classic Looney Tunes material framed by newly made linking sequences. The film is divided into three parts: a segment in which Yosemite Sam, after being dispatched by Bugs, bargains with the Devil for a way out of hell; a gangster story in which Bugs contends with the small-time crook Rocky and his accomplice Mugsy; and a cartoon awards ceremony, the Oswalds, where Daffy Duck takes losing badly.
Friz Freleng directed, working from a screenplay he wrote with John W. Dunn and Tedd Pierce, and he also produced alongside Hal Geer and Jean MacCurdy. It was his ninth film as director in the chronological order recorded here, following Pinkfinger and preceding Bugs Bunny's 3rd Movie: 1001 Rabbit Tales. Mel Blanc voices Bugs, Yosemite Sam, Daffy Duck, Sylvester, Tweety, Porky Pig, Speedy Gonzales, Pepe Le Pew and others, with June Foray, Frank Nelson, Frank Welker, Stan Freberg and Ralph James rounding out the cast.
Released in the United States in November 1981 and running 79 minutes, the film combines animation, comedy, crime, family, music and western elements. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.3 out of 10 from 164 votes, indicating a generally favorable response from those who have logged it.
