Three Coins in the Fountain

Three American women share a apartment in Rome while working as secretaries for a government agency. Frances, the eldest, has long been devoted to her employer, a well-known novelist who barely notices her. Her colleague Anita breaks office rules by becoming involved with an Italian co-worker, while the newest arrival, Maria, meets an Italian prince and falls for him. Following a local tradition, the three women throw coins into the Trevi Fountain and each wishes for the man of her dreams, setting the film's three romantic stories in motion.

Jean Negulesco directed the film, which followed How to Marry a Millionaire and Titanic in his filmography. John Patrick wrote the screenplay, and Sol C. Siegel produced it for 20th Century Fox. The cast includes Clifton Webb, Dorothy McGuire, Jean Peters, Louis Jourdan, Maggie McNamara and Rossano Brazzi.
