The Quake

The Quake is a Norwegian disaster thriller about Kristian Eikjord, a geologist who has moved to Oslo, where his estranged wife and their two children now live. After a traffic tunnel collapses in the city, he grows convinced that the tremors being recorded beneath the capital point to something far worse. A severe earthquake struck Oslo in 1904, and the film draws on that history as the basis for what may be coming again. Few take his warnings seriously until the disaster arrives, and he must then try to reach his family in time.

The film is directed by John Andreas Andersen, working from a screenplay by Harald Rosenløw-Eeg and John Kåre Raake, and produced by Martin Sundland and Are Haydenström for Fantefilm. Kristoffer Joner leads the cast as Kristian, alongside Ane Dahl Torp, Jonas Hoff Oftebro, Edith Haagenrud-Sande, Kathrine Thorborg Johansen and Stig R. Amdam. It runs 106 minutes and was released in August 2018. It is the second feature Andersen directed, following the earlier work listed in his filmography and preceding The Burning Sea, Number 24 and The Nation's Gambit.

The production had a budget of about 52 million USD and took roughly 14 million USD worldwide, a return well below its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.2 out of 10 from around 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.7 from 838 votes. A critics' rating of 6.7 from 39 reviews is comparable to the TMDB audience figure and somewhat above the IMDb one.
