Set in Stockholm during the 1920s, this drama follows a twelve-year-old boy named Roland who navigates a world filled with social prejudice. Living with a socialist father, a Jewish mother, and a brother who boxes, Roland uses his imagination and rebellious spirit to cope with his environment. He finds creative ways to earn money, such as repairing bicycles and selling slingshots he makes from his mother's illegal inventory of condoms. These activities, along with his defiant attitude, lead to frequent conflicts with a strict school teacher who ensures he is punished.
The film was directed by Åke Sandgren, who also co-wrote the screenplay based on an autobiographical novel by Roland Schütt. The cast features Jesper Salén in the title role, alongside Stellan Skarsgård, Basia Frydman, Niclas Olund, Ernst-Hugo Järegård, and Reine Brynolfsson. A joint production between Denmark and Sweden, the project involved companies such as SF Studios and Nordisk Film Denmark.
Audience reception has been moderately positive. On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 6.5/10 based on 2,400 votes, while it has a rating of 6/10 on TMDB from 39 votes.
