Santa Claus falls from his sleigh during a Christmas Eve flight and lands on the car of television reporter Peter Albright. The fall leaves him with amnesia, unable to recall his own identity as the holiday approaches. Peter's girlfriend, Claire, gives him work as a department-store Santa, while her young son, Zack, becomes convinced of who the stranger really is. Santa, the reporter and the boy search together for a way to restore his memory, which requires overcoming Peter's skepticism.
Leslie Nielsen leads the cast as Santa, with Steven Eckholdt as Peter, Robyn Lively as Claire and Max Morrow as Zack. Tommy Davidson and Darren Frost also appear, among a credited cast of 43. William Dear directed the film, which arrived in 2000 as the sixth of the nine features listed in his filmography, between Wild America and School of Life. Released as a television production from Hearst Entertainment Productions and Gleneagle Productions, the 92-minute comedy-fantasy has drawn modest scores from viewers: 5.4 out of 10 on IMDb from around 2,400 votes and 5.5 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller pool of 88 votes.
The film was broadcast on December 3, 2000. It pairs Nielsen's comic presence with a premise built on a memory loss that threatens the Christmas holiday itself.
