Liar Liar

Fletcher Reede is a fast-talking Los Angeles attorney who wins cases by bending the facts and saying whatever serves his argument. His habit of lying follows him home, where he has repeatedly let down his ex-wife Audrey and their young son Max. At Max's birthday party, the boy blows out his candles and wishes that his father would go a single day without telling a lie. The wish takes hold, and for the next twenty-four hours Fletcher finds he cannot say anything untrue, whether in court, at the office or in his personal life. The condition threatens both the case he is handling and his already strained relationship with his family, especially when he learns that Audrey's new partner plans to move her and Max away.

Tom Shadyac directed the film, his third feature after Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Nutty Professor, from a screenplay by Paul Guay and Stephen Mazur, with Brian Grazer producing. Jim Carrey leads as Fletcher, joined by Maura Tierney, Justin Cooper, Cary Elwes, Anne Haney and Amanda Donohoe. Made for about 45 million dollars, it took in roughly 303 million worldwide.

On IMDb it holds 6.9 from around 361,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.7 from about 6,400 votes. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10 from 63 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
