Short description
A year after the killings in her hometown, Cindy Campbell has started college and hopes for a quiet life. A professor, Oldman, recruits her and a group of classmates for a weekend scientific experiment at a supposedly haunted mansion known as Hell House. The students expect a few scares; instead they find themselves dealing with the professor's real intentions and with the house's otherworldly occupants. The film is a comedy that sends up horror movies, opening with a parody of The Exorcist before reuniting Cindy and her friends.
Keenen Ivory Wayans directed, following Scary Movie (2000) in his filmography and preceding White Chicks (2004); it is the fourth of the six features he has directed. The screenplay was written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Alyson Fouse, and Eric L. Gold produced. Anna Faris returns as Cindy, with Regina Hall as Brenda, Marlon Wayans as Shorty and Shawn Wayans as Ray; Christopher Masterson and Kathleen Robertson also appear. Thirty-five cast members and 204 crew are credited.
Made for 45 million dollars, the film took about 141 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 5.4/10 from roughly 192,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.8/10 from over 5,400 votes, indicating that audiences rate it as middling. A critics' rating of 3.7/10 from 109 reviews places it below those audience scores. The film runs 82 minutes and was released in July 2001.

- Many people bought tickets to this film just to watch the trailer for Kevin Smith's "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" before it began. After the commercial ended, many viewers left the theater.
- This is the only "Scary Movie" filmed in America. All other installments were filmed in British Columbia and Canada.
- Cindy drives out of the freezer on a Caterpillar bulldozer.
- The song Hanson sings to Cindy previously appeared in "Poltergeist II" (1986) performed by a priest.
- The opening scene featuring James Woods parodies the film "The Exorcist" (1973). The film also contains parodies of "The Amityville Horror" (1979), "Poltergeist II" (1986), "The Haunting" (1999), "What Lies Beneath" (2000), and "Charlie's Angels" (2000).
- Marlon Brando received $1 million for a small role as Father MacFlurry, which he was supposed to play in the opening scene of the film, parodying "The Exorcist" (1973). However, a few days before filming began, the famous actor fell ill with pneumonia and withdrew from the project. However, no one demanded that Brando return the money paid to him. The role of MacFlurry was then offered to Charlton Heston, but he declined it. Ultimately, James Woods played the part.
- An alternative ending featuring Father MacFlurry was filmed, in which Cindy discovers that all her friends are dead. However, this ending was ultimately rejected.
- Megan Voorhees is the heroine of the first scene, her surname alluding to Mrs. Voorhees and her son Jason from "Friday the 13th".
