Short description

While the original parodied slasher flicks like Scream, Keenen Ivory Wayans's sequel to Scary Movie takes comedic aim at haunted house movies. A group of students visit a mansion called "Hell House," and murderous high jinks ensue.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Many people bought tickets for this movie solely to see the trailer for Kevin Smith's 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back' before the feature began. Once the promotional clip ended, many viewers left the theater.
  • This is the only "Scary Movie" filmed in America. All other installments were filmed in British Columbia and Canada.
  • Cindy drives out of the freezer on a Caterpillar bulldozer.
  • The song that Hanson sings to Cindy had previously appeared in 'Poltergeist II: The Other Side' (1986), performed by a priest.
  • Megan Voorhees is the heroine of the first scene, her surname alluding to Mrs. Voorhees and her son Jason from "Friday the 13th".
  • The opening scene featuring James Woods parodies the film 'The Exorcist' (1973). The movie also contains parodies of 'The Amityville Horror' (1979), 'Poltergeist II' (1986), 'The Haunting' (1999), 'What Lies Beneath' (2000), and 'Charlie's Angels' (2000).
  • Marlon Brando was paid $1 million for a small role as Father McFly, which he was to play in the film's opening scene, a parody of 'The Exorcist' (1973). However, a few days before filming began, the famous actor fell ill with pneumonia and dropped out of the project. Nevertheless, no one demanded that Brando return the money paid to him. The role of McFly was then offered to Charlton Heston, but he turned it down. In the end, it was played by James Woods.
  • An alternative ending featuring Father McFly was filmed, in which Cindy discovers that all her friends are dead. However, this ending was ultimately discarded.
