Ulzana's Raid

Ulzana's Raid follows a small band of Chiricahua Apaches who leave their reservation under the war chief Ulzana and set out across the countryside, attacking settlers as they go. A young, inexperienced lieutenant, Garnett DeBuin, is sent after them with a cavalry detachment. He is accompanied by McIntosh, a veteran scout who knows how the Apaches operate, and Ke-Ni-Tay, an Apache guide serving with the army. The pursuit forces DeBuin to confront the violence of the raid and his own assumptions about the people he is hunting.

Robert Aldrich directed the film, the thirteenth of the seventeen features he made, between The Grissom Gang and Emperor of the North. Alan Sharp wrote the screenplay, and Burt Lancaster, who also produced, plays McIntosh. Bruce Davison plays DeBuin, with Jorge Luke as Ke-Ni-Tay, Richard Jaeckel as a sergeant, Joaquín Martínez as Ulzana and Lloyd Bochner as Captain Gates. The production involved Universal Pictures with Aldrich's company and De Haven Productions, on a budget of about one million dollars.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from roughly 7,100 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.9 out of 10 from about 165 votes. A critics' rating of 6.9 out of 10 rests on ten reviews, placing professional and audience assessments close together.
