I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore

Ruth Kimke, a nursing assistant who feels disconnected from her life and the world around her, comes home to find her house has been burglarized. The police treat her complaint as routine, so she takes matters into her own hands, teaming up with Tony, her eccentric and difficult next-door neighbor. Their search for the stolen property gives Ruth a sense of direction, but the pair soon find themselves facing far more dangerous people than the petty thieves they set out to find.

I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore is a 2017 American crime comedy-drama written and directed by Macon Blair, marking his feature directorial debut after earlier work as an actor and screenwriter. Melanie Lynskey plays Ruth, with Elijah Wood as Tony; the cast also includes David Yow, Jane Levy, Devon Graye and Christine Woods, among 42 credited performers. Blair went on to direct The Toxic Avenger Unrated in 2025 and Idiots in 2026.
