Valentino

Valentino is a 1977 biographical drama about the silent-film star Rudolph Valentino, told largely through the recollections of the women in his life after his early death at thirty-one. The story follows his journey from an immigrant arriving in America with nothing to the heights of Hollywood fame, tracing the relationships and struggles that shaped his rise. Among the central figures are the actress Alla Nazimova, who helped open doors for him, and his wife Natasha Rambova, with the film moving between his funeral and the events of his career.

Ken Russell directed, working from a screenplay he wrote with Mardik Martin, and the film was produced by Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff. It was Russell's seventh feature as director, arriving after Tommy and before Altered States. Ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev took the title role, with Leslie Caron, Michelle Phillips, Carol Kane, Felicity Kendal and Seymour Cassel among the cast. The production had a budget of five million dollars.
