The Girl from Rio follows secret agent Jeff Sutton, who arrives in Rio de Janeiro carrying a briefcase full of money and soon finds himself hunted by more than one party. A British crime boss, Sir Masius, wants the cash, while the all-female organisation known as Femina, led by the beautiful Sumuru, pursues its own plan for global power and needs funds to finance it. Sutton becomes a pawn in the struggle between the two sides, and the conflict eventually reaches Femina itself.
The film was directed by Jesús Franco, the fifth of twenty-one films he made in chronological order, between Kiss Me Monster and Count Dracula. Harry Alan Towers produced from a screenplay he wrote with Bruno Leder and Franz Eichhorn, and the cast is led by Shirley Eaton as Sumuru, Richard Wyler as Jeff Sutton and George Sanders as Sir Masius, with Maria Rohm, Marta Reves and Elisa Montés in supporting roles. It is a German, British, Spanish and American co-production running ninety-four minutes.
On TMDB the film holds a rating of 4.8 out of 10 from 43 votes, which suggests a modest reception among those who have seen it.
