The War Zone centres on Tom, a fifteen-year-old who has just moved with his family from London to a remote part of Devon. Isolated in an unfamiliar house, with his mother preoccupied by a new baby, he grows close to his eighteen-year-old sister, Jessie. What begins as unease about their father hardens into the discovery of a secret shared between Jessie and Dad, leaving Tom to decide what to do with what he has learned.
The film is Tim Roth's directorial debut, released in 1999 and adapted by Alexander Stuart from his own novel. Freddie Cunliffe plays Tom and Lara Belmont plays Jessie, with Ray Winstone as Dad and Tilda Swinton as Mum. It runs 98 minutes and was made as a British and Italian co-production.
On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.8 out of 10 from around 200 votes, indicating a modest but positive response from those who have logged it.
