Napping Princess

Napping Princess follows Kokone Morikawa, a high school student in a small town who should be preparing for her final exams but keeps falling asleep wherever she is. In her dreams she enters a world much like her own, where a princess who resembles her is caught up in a conflict between magic and a squad of motorized machines. As her widowed father, a talented mechanic, becomes caught up in trouble of his own, Kokone and her friend Morio try to help him while she works out how her dreams connect to her family's past.

The film was released in Japan in 2017. Kenji Kamiyama directed and wrote the screenplay; it sits between 009 Re:Cyborg and Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Sustainable War in the list of films he has directed, and follows several earlier works in the Ghost in the Shell and Eden of the East series. Mitsuki Takahata voices Kokone, with Yosuke Eguchi, Shinnosuke Mitsushima, Rie Kugimiya, Tomoya Maeno and Wataru Takagi in supporting roles.

Its worldwide box office came to about 1 million USD. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from 1,700 votes, and on TMDB 6.7 out of 10 from 134 votes. A critics' rating of 6.2 out of 10 from 19 reviews places it close to, and slightly below, both audience scores.
