The Old Man & the Gun

The Old Man & the Gun tells the story of Forrest Tucker, a career bank robber who has spent much of his life behind bars but keeps finding his way out again. In his later years he teams up with two accomplices for a string of calmly executed robberies, charming his way through each job without ever drawing a weapon. A detective named John Hunt gradually comes to see that one crew is behind the crimes, while a woman named Jewel becomes close to Tucker even as she learns what he does for a living.

David Lowery wrote and directed the film, which followed A Ghost Story in his filmography and came before The Green Knight. Robert Redford, who also produced, plays Tucker, with Casey Affleck as Hunt, Sissy Spacek as Jewel, Danny Glover as Teddy and Tom Waits as Waller.

Released in 2018, the film runs 94 minutes and is a crime drama with comic touches. Its reported budget was 16 million USD, and it took in about 11 million USD worldwide. Audiences are moderately positive: it holds 6.7/10 on IMDb from around 48,900 votes and 6.4/10 on TMDB from roughly 1,500 votes. A film critics' rating of 7.6/10 from 275 reviews is noticeably higher than those audience scores.
