An American outlaw known as the Montana Kid, whose real name is Sean Rafferty, arrives in a small Canadian town after a riding accident leaves him injured and helpless. Once recovered, he tries to do what comes naturally to a gunfighter and challenge the locals to duels, only to discover that nobody in the settlement owns a firearm and no one recognises the violent code he lives by. His standoff with the town blacksmith goes nowhere for the same reason, and a widowed farmer named Jane Taylor becomes part of the new life he struggles to fit into. The arrival of a Mountie and a bounty hunter complicates things further.
William Phillips wrote and directed the film, his third feature after Treed Murray in 2001 and Foolproof in 2003. Paul Gross leads the cast as Rafferty, with Sienna Guillory as Jane, Tyler Mane as the blacksmith Jack, Callum Keith Rennie, Dustin Milligan and Graham Greene among the credited players, 32 in all. The Canadian production had a budget of roughly 10 million dollars.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.4 from around 4,400 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6.4, from 99 votes, so viewers on both platforms have judged it about the same. It runs 89 minutes and mixes western, comedy, action and drama.
