Tiger Bay

Tiger Bay is a British crime thriller set in the docklands of Cardiff. A twelve-year-old tomboy named Gillie witnesses a Polish sailor, Korchinsky, shoot a woman during a quarrel. Rather than report what she has seen, Gillie takes the discarded revolver and keeps it for herself. When Superintendent Graham realises the girl holds the murder weapon, she spins a tangle of lies to keep him off the trail. At the same time, a bond forms between Gillie and the fugitive sailor, and she sets out to shield him from the police. The title comes from the Cardiff dockland district where the story takes place.

The film was directed by J. Lee Thompson, the third of the twenty-one features he directed in chronological order, arriving between North West Frontier and The Guns of Navarone. John Hawkesworth and Shelley Smith wrote the screenplay, with Leslie Parkyn, John Hawkesworth and Julian Wintle producing for Independent Artists. John Mills plays Superintendent Graham, Horst Buchholz is Korchinsky and Hayley Mills, in the role that brought her to prominence, plays Gillie; Yvonne Mitchell, Megs Jenkins and Anthony Dawson are also in the cast, which numbers thirty-two credited performers.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.5 from around 3,600 votes, and on TMDB it has a rating of 7.2 from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 7.4 from nine reviews places it close to the audience scores, indicating a broadly consistent reception across reviewers and viewers.
