A Generation

A Generation is a Polish war drama set during the Nazi occupation of Warsaw. Its central figure is Stach, a young man scraping by on the city's edges, whose life changes when he finds work in a carpentry shop and meets people involved in the underground resistance. Through them he is drawn into clandestine activity against the occupiers, and into a relationship with Dorota, a committed young woman in the movement. The film follows his political awakening and the moral pressures that come with taking responsibility for others in dangerous times.

The film was directed by Andrzej Wajda, and it stands first in the chronological list of his features, ahead of Kanal and Ashes and Diamonds. Bohdan Czeszko wrote the screenplay. The cast is led by Tadeusz Łomnicki as Stanisław Mazur, with Urszula Modrzyńska, Tadeusz Janczar, Janusz Paluszkiewicz, Ryszard Kotys and Roman Polanski among the forty-three credited performers. It runs 87 minutes and was produced by WFF Wroclaw.

On TMDB it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from 64 votes, a modest but positive response from those who have logged it.
