7 Days in Entebbe

In 1976, an Air France flight from Tel Aviv to Paris is hijacked and diverted to Entebbe, Uganda. The German radicals Brigitte Kuhlmann and Wilfried Böse, working with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, hold the passengers and crew hostage and demand the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel, along with a large sum of money, threatening to kill the captives if their demands are not met. As the seven-day deadline set by the hijackers runs down, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Defence Minister Shimon Peres weigh whether to break with the country's long-standing refusal to negotiate with terrorists or to attempt a rescue operation instead. The film follows both the hostage-takers and the Israeli leadership, with much of its focus on Kuhlmann and Böse. It is a dramatisation of a real hijacking and the rescue mission it prompted.

José Padilha directed from a screenplay by Gregory Burke, with Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Kate Solomon producing for Working Title, Focus Features, DreamWorks and Participant. The cast includes Rosamund Pike as Kuhlmann, Daniel Brühl as Böse, Eddie Marsan as Peres, Lior Ashkenazi as Rabin and Nonso Anozie as Idi Amin. The film was Padilha's fifth narrative feature, arriving after Elite Squad, Garapa, Elite Squad: The Enemy Within, RoboCop and an anthology segment in Rio, I Love You. It grossed about nine million dollars worldwide, a modest figure for a production of this scale and cast. On IMDb it holds 5.9 out of 10 across roughly seventeen thousand votes, and on TMDB 5.8 from around 460 votes. A critics' rating of 4.9 from 119 reviews places it below the audience scores on both platforms.
